It seems like there is a scam for everything these days, especially around tax season! Luckily for us, the IRS put together a list, called the "Dirty Dozen," of popular scams to watch for.
Be sure to keep an eye for these popular scams this tax season:
Identity Theft: Criminals filing tax returns using someone else's social security number. Be sure to keep yours safe!
Phone Scams: The IRS has seen an increase in criminals impersonating IRS agents over the past several years. Be sure to report any suspicious calls to your local authorities.
Phishing: Keep a look out for fake emails or websites requesting your personal information. According to the IRS, "The IRS will never send taxpayers an email about a bill or refund out of the blue."
Return Preparer Fraud: Make sure to use a legitimate tax professional when filing your taxes this season.
Inflated Refund Claims: Beware of any individual or organization promising you inflated tax returns! This could be a scam.
Fake Charities: Make sure that you are donating to legitimate, eligible charities.
