It's summer time! The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and unfortunately, scams are in full swing. The BBB and KRISTV are warning residents about home security scams. KRISTV states that home security scammers, "may simply be after your personal and financial information, or they may be casing your home for a potential burglary."
Here are some tips to protect yourself:
- Do Your Research: If you are planning on getting work done on your home, be sure to hire someone that you trust! Check out local business references, reviews and their website. Also, do not let someone into your home without a proper form of ID.
- Ask Questions: Make sure to ask questions and get a written assessment of the work. A legitimate business will tell you who will be doing the work and the approximate cost. Make sure that you have an appointment scheduled with the business before you let workers into your home.
- Don't Rush: Don't feel pressured into making an important decision about home repairs or upgrades. Be wary of companies that offer "today only" deals or will not leave until you decide. Check out multiple businesses to be sure you are getting the right product for you and your family.
