Have you recently lost money to a scammer? You aren't alone! Unfortunately, the FTC warns that if you have been scammed once, you are more likely to be scammed again.
After you have been scammed, scammers often put your name and contact information on a list of people who have recently lost money. Fraudsters then go down this list and promise to help individuals recover their lost funds for a fee. The FTC states that scammers will sometimes post comments online pretending to be a government agency or a reputable source to get you to contact them for their services.
Don't fall for it! Here are some tips to avoid recovery scams:
Do not give out personal information or send money to someone you do not know after receiving a call, text or email.
Do not give money to someone you do not know before receiving any help.
Make sure to do your research before working with anyone!
